The referee will allow fighters to work in the clinch to gain position. Excessive clinching without strikes will be broken up by the referee.

Throws:

Throws and sweeps allowed. These must be done with the arms, knees and legs to off balance an opponent and “dump” or “throw”. Judo throws, hip tosses, take downs, or body slams are NOT allowed. You may not pick up an opponent to body slam as seen in MMA. No “tripping” is allowed. A fighter may not intentionally fall on top of their opponent to cause injury. ALL sweeps must be done with a kicking motion.

All of the above are considered fouls. If a referee determines a foul is intentional a point will be deducted. If referee determines a foul in unintentional a warning will be given for the first instance. Subsequent fouls will receive point deductions. A downed opponent has up to 5 minutes to recover due to a foul (at referee discretion). The Referee reserves the right to end a fight due to subsequent fouls if it is in the best interest of the fighter.

No Contest Decisions:

If an opponent is fouled in the first round and as a result cannot continue, AND the Referee rules the foul as accidental the bout will be ruled a “no contest” If the bout has complete the first round and fouled opponent cannot continue, AND the foul was deemed “accidental” the decision will go to the judges score card to determine the winner. Any Intentional foul resulting in a fighter being unable to continue will award the winner to the downed fighter.

ISKA RING RULES

Standing 8 Count: The standing 8 count is in effect for all amateur bouts. All fighters must engage. If a fighter looks helpless but continues to stand but not move, not fighting back or defending themselves the referee will stop the action and administer a standing 8 count. This will be scored the same as a knockdown on the judges’ scorecards. **this is not to be confused with a flash knockdown or slip and a fighter cannot be “saved by the bell”. The referee can stop the bout at anytime if they feel it is necessary (in some cases without the use of a standing 8 count.)

All fighters must engage. If you are not fighting back/defending yourself, the ring referee will stop the action and administer an 8 count to ensure you safety. This will be scored as a knockdown on the judges’ scorecards.

3 Knockdown Rule: If a fighter receives blows that knock him/her down 3 times in any given round or requiring the referee to deliver a standing 8 count, the fight will be stopped and deemed a TKO.

Flash Knockdown: The flash knockdown is in effect in all bouts. If a fighter is knocked down but immediately gets back up with no sign of damage at the discretion of the referee it will be declared a flash knockdown. This will NOT count against the fighter on the judges’ score cards. If a fighter is knocked out upon impact and then wakes up upon their head bouncing off the canvas the referee may see this and issue a count to ensure the fighters safety. In this case it would not be considered a flash knockdown.

JUDGING:

All Muay Thai Techniques are scored the same, one technique does not score higher than another, however some techniques are more powerful by the nature of the attack. Judges will score using the following criteria:

1) Effective Muay Thai Technique: The fighter slowing their opponent down. Visibly taking their opponents fighting spirit through clean and accurate attacks. ie: opponent showing tiredness and loss of balance.

2) Dominance: The fighter that is controlling the fight and showing the most knowledge of clean Muay Thai technique.

3) Deflection: The fighter with the most effective defense exhibiting good balance.
